California Public Health Department Update
Burton families, To better align state COVID-19 guidance with the most current federal recommendations, the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) is ending COVID-19 policies that required weekly COVID-19 testing for unvaccinated individuals in high-risk workplaces and schools. Health care facilities, other congregate settings and schools will no longer be required to administer weekly COVID-19 testing of unvaccinated and under vaccinated workers. The state’s vaccination requirements for employees in these work settings remain in effect. In addition, changes to policies regarding state workers will be announced separately by CalHR. State public health leaders urge all individuals to stay up-to-date on the COVID-19 vaccine to protect themselves from severe illness and slow the spread of the virus. As Omicron variants keep emerging, the updated booster is an important tool against severe illnesses, hospitalization, long COVID, and death. California expects to receive more than 1 million doses of the updated booster and will have ample supply to meet demand. While weekly testing requirements are ending on Saturday, September 17, 2022 , employers and schools are encouraged to continue providing testing resources to staff and students to slow the spread of COVID-19 in all communities. Vaccination and testing are two key measures that help mitigate the spread of COVID-19, as is masking and improving indoor ventilation. The state has distributed another round of 10 million at-home tests to K-12 schools and continues to support additional testing resources for schools as well as school and community testing sites. COVID-19 testing and home testing kits will remain available at the Burkey Center, 2440 W Henderson Ave Monday-Friday 7am-3:45pm. Stay safe and healthy, Sergio Mendoza Superintendent

Keeping our Schools Healthy
Burton Families, We are excited to be able to start off the school year with students in seats in classrooms. Providing a safe school environment for all of our students and employees continues to be our top priority. We recently have seen an increase in COVID-19 positive cases at our school sites. As a reminder if your child is having any of the following symptoms such as fever, cough, shortness of breath, muscle or body aches, changes in taste and smell or sore throat, please keep your child at home and have them tested. If your child is having symptoms and/or tests positive please call the COVID hotline at 559-781-1715 and report it to your school site office. Masks are optional and are available at each school site. We will continue to offer COVID-19 testing at our Burkey Center located at 2440 W Henderson, Monday-Friday 7am-3pm. Home Testing Kits are also available at the Burkey Center. Keeping our schools open and safe is a community effort and will require action and commitment from each and every one of us. Thank you for doing your part and for your continued support and cooperation. Stay safe and healthy Sergio Mendoza Superintendent

School Start Times
Burton Families, We hope that you have been able to enjoy summer break. We are looking forward to the start of the new school year. We wanted to make you aware of a new law (SB 328) which went into effect on July 1st. This new law requires districts operating high schools to begin the school day no earlier than 8:30a.m. We understand that families still require the flexibility of dropping students off earlier. As a result of the late start we will continue to have our gates at Summit Collegiate High School opened at 7:30am. Supervision will be provided until the first bell rings at 8:30am. Additional information will be sent to our high school families regarding bell schedules and bussing. This change only affects our high school. All other Burton School District schools will begin at regular start times, Elementary begin at 8:10am and Middle schools begin at 8:05am . We look forward to welcoming students back on August 9th.
