November 4th – 20th
Make a Difference in Our Community!
Did you know that food scarcity is a reality for families right here in Woodinville and nearby areas? While food insecurity can affect anyone, the impact is especially challenging during the holiday season. This November, Woodinville High School is stepping up to support local families who need a helping hand.
Join WHS ASB in our annual food drive to ensure every family in our community has the essentials they need to get through the winter months. We’re asking all WHS families to participate generously.
Let’s come together to make sure no family goes without. See below for a list of items to donate.
Bring non-perishable food items to donate November 4th - 20th to fill up your grade's admin office!
Freshmen - Ms. Doerr & Mrs. Kongkarat's (athletic) office
Sophomores - Mr. Taylor's office
Juniors - Dr. Brown's office
Seniors - Mr. Criscione's office
Donated food will benefit the Maltby Food Bank.
Thank you for your support!

Natasha, Pierre, and the Great Comet of 1812
|
November 1-2
This Fall, the Woodinville High School Theatre Company (WHSTC) will bring the fresh-from-Broadway, electropop-opera Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812 to the WHS stage. Based on a scandalous slice of Leo Tolstoy’s epic novel War and Peace, The Great Comet was conceived by the celebrated and award-winning composer Dave Malloy, and premiered in October 2012, at Ars Nova in New York City, under the direction of Rachel Chavkin, with Malloy in the lead role of Pierre. The production later opened on Broadway in November 2016, starring Josh Groban and Denée Benton, and was nominated for 12 awards for the 2017 Tony Awards. Inspired by a 70-page slice of War and Peace, this innovative new musical is vibrant and immersive and brings us just inches from Tolstoy’s brash young lovers as they light up Moscow in a brilliant flash of romance and passion.
The show will run November 1-2 at 7:00 pm in the Woodinville High School Theater.
The story follows Natasha, a beautiful ingénue visiting Moscow while she waits for her beloved fiancé Prince Andrey to return from the war. In a moment of indiscretion, she is seduced by the dashing (but already married) Anatole, resulting in the ruination of her societal position and future with Andrey. Her only hope lies with Pierre, the lonely outsider whose love and compassion for Natasha may be the key to her redemption… and to the renewal of his own soul. The musical is entirely sung, opera-style, and the WHSTC is honored to be the first High School in Washington state to be performing this show.
Tickets are on sale via GoFan or at the WHS Cashier's Office. General Admission is $15, Seniors (65+) or students with ASB are $10. For both Saturday evening performances, there will also be VIP seats for $25.

2024-25 Advanced Placement Testing Payment and Registration Information
|
The 2025 AP exams will cover the full content in each AP course, so students have the opportunity to receive college credit and/or placement. Every AP student should keep their options open by registering for the exam on time because there will still be a $42 fee for late orders. The College Board will support in-school testing in 2024 because administering exams in schools maximizes access and opportunity. If safety concerns still prohibit any students from testing at a school, the College Board will provide a contingency testing option that contains full course content.
Students - Create a College Board Account: Students will need a College Board account to join their AP class section, receive AP assignments from teachers, get feedback on class progress, and register for AP exams (note: parents should not create an account for the student). If you don’t have a student account, go to www.collegeboard.org/register.
Already Have a College Board Account? All College Board programs are connected through one account. If an account was created for AP, PSAT/NMSQT or SAT, you just need your username and password to sign in.
|
|
|
|
|
Advanced Placement Exam Registration & Payment is a two-step process (Both parts must be completed for each AP exam to be registered, ordered, and paid for).
-
STEP 1: Students will need to login or create a College Board account via myap.collegeboard.org. Students will also need a “join code” to join a class section. Note: An exam cannot be ordered for you until you complete Step 1! Students do not need to be enrolled in an AP course to take an AP exam. If you want to take an AP exam and are not enrolled in an AP course, you will still need a join code to register, order, and pay for an exam. Please contact AP Coordinator Andrea Baleva abaleva@nsd.org to get a join code issued.
-
STEP 2: Students will PAY for their AP exam fees via www.TotalRegistration.net/AP/481598 Note: An exam cannot be fully ordered and paid for you until you complete Step 1! (The College Board does not accept payment when registering for an AP exam so we have to use a second party to accept and track exam payment.)
IMPORTANT DEADLINES AND INFORMATION
- AP Registration Deadline: November 15, 2024
- It is recommended that students use their Northshore email account (@apps.nsd.org) when registering for both Total Registration and the College Board. Failure to use the same NSD email on both sites may cause a student to not get the correct AP exam.
- AP exams will cost $108.00 (AP Seminar and AP Research are $148.00).
- Late registration fee mandated by College Board: Students may register for an AP exam AFTER November 15th, 2024 and up until March 7th, 2025, but will have to pay an additional $42 per exam late order fee.
- Any students who qualify for Free & Reduced Lunch are eligible for a fee waiver and will not have to pay for an AP exam.

Drop Off and Pick Up Reminders: Safety First
|
Falcon Parents, Guardians, and Students,
A reminder, for everyone's safety, that dropping off or picking up students in the WHS Bus Zone is not allowed. It's imperative that this area remains clear for school bus drop off and pick up only. Bus drivers cannot see students that run across the bus zone in front of them to get into or exit a car.
Additionally, students must not cross 195th Street NE at the Bus Zone entrance. There is not a crosswalk at this location. Students should not be dropped off or picked up alongside 195th Street NE.
For drop off/pick up, please use the designated Main Office Drop-Off Loop.
Furthermore, for students that have permission to park in the 600 Building Lot, extreme caution must be used when leaving campus to not dart out of the lot in front of incoming school buses.
Thank you for your prompt attention to this important safety matter.
If you should have any questions, please reach out to Campus Supervisor Shaina Bloomquist or Campus Supervisor Alan Dillman.
GO Falcons!

Hi Falcons!
The 1st quarter is coming to an end Nov 1st. Quarter grades are a progress report and do not go on the student’s transcript. Reminder to students to make sure you are connecting with your teachers about missing assignments and/or questions you have about being successful in classes. We are more than happy to help you come up with a plan to stay on track for the rest of the semester, reach out to your Counselor.
This time of year can be particularly stressful, and we encourage our students to prioritize self-care by ensuring they get ample rest, engage in regular exercise, take moments to breathe deeply, eat nutritious meals, practice positive thinking, and use daily affirmations. We also invite parents to connect with their teens daily—simply asking how they’re doing and if they need any support can make a significant difference. It's essential for teenagers to feel heard.
Here are some effective ways parents can support a teen dealing with anxiety:
-
Listen Actively: Give your teen your undivided attention. Maintain eye contact and nod to show you’re engaged. Avoid interrupting them
-
Validate Their Feelings: Acknowledge your teen’s emotions and fears without judgment. Let them know their feelings are valid
-
Show Empathy: Share your own experiences with anxiety to help your teen feel understood and less isolated
-
Encourage Healthy Habits: Promote a balanced diet, regular exercise, and adequate sleep. Suggest keeping a journal, setting achievable goals, and celebrating their successes
-
Spend Quality Time Together: Make an effort to enjoy family meals, go for walks, or participate in activities your teen enjoys
-
Create a Safe Space: Foster an environment where your teen feels comfortable sharing their thoughts and feelings without fear of judgment
-
Seek Professional Help When Needed: If your teen’s anxiety is significantly impacting their daily life, consider reaching out to a mental health professional, such as a school counselor or primary care physician
|
|
|
|
|
By supporting your teen with these approaches, you can help them navigate this challenging time with greater confidence and resilience.
Seniors:
- We are hosting College Apps & Snacks in the College and Career Center on Mondays after school from 3:30-4:15 pm and Wednesday mornings from 7:30-8:15 am.
- The College Readiness and Resources page on the WHS Counseling webpage contains tons of helpful videos, resources, and links.
- We created the WHS Senior Handbook to guide students through their senior year. Check it out!
- The WHS School Profile is now available at this link
- The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is scheduled to open in December. All students applying to college will need to complete the FAFSA for the 2024-2025 school year.
- Check out the WHS Common Application Tip Sheet for more helpful tips and information.
Parents, please review these important application steps with your Senior:
- Make sure the colleges you are applying to are added in Naviance and that your Common App account is “Matched”
- If you need a Letter of Recommendation from your Counselor and/or a teacher, complete the LOR form/brag sheet and communicate with the recommender(s) at least 2 weeks in advance. The LOR form is found in the WHS Senior Handbook
- Students need to add a Teacher Letter of Recommendation request in Naviance, but do not need to add their Counselor.
- Complete the FERPA Waiver in the Common App
- Request your transcripts in Naviance for all of the schools you are applying to

Social Media, Texting & Your Teen
|
A gentle reminder to continue communicating with your teen about the appropriate use of social media and electronic devices. You are encouraged to have direct conversations with your student about the impact words, texts, posts, and actions can have on each other and possibly the learning environment. When conversations outside of school begin to disrupt the learning environment behaviors on social media and cell phones may lead to consequences.
Remember the game of telephone where the message being relayed starts with one message and ends with a different message? That can happen frequently with adolescents, and the use of technology and cell phones complicates it greatly, as messages can be quickly shared, reaching many people at once.
Please continue to encourage your student to share any concerns they have, particularly if a social media post and/or text has made them feel unsafe. If they aren’t comfortable sharing directly with staff, families can always anonymously submit concerns using our Safe Schools Alert System:
Thank you for your partnership in these efforts. Together, we can keep our school environment focused on learning within a positive environment.

Student Device Protection Plan
|
The Northshore School District provides each student with a district-issued technology device. When students/families assume responsibility for a district-issued device, they sign forms agreeing to accept financial responsibility for any device damage or loss. We know accidents and loss can happen. The Student Device Protection Plan provides NSD families an optional path to mitigate the financial liability of using a district device.
PARTICIPATION COST: The standard payment to enroll in the NSD Student Device Protection Plan is $25 per year; free for students who have qualified for free or reduced-price meals and who have provided consent to share their status for fee waivers. No refunds will be given once enrolled in this program.
COVERAGE AND BENEFIT: This program covers the device (Chromebook, Macbook, or iPad) loaned to your student against accidental damage for the school year. This program does NOT cover damage resulting from misuse or neglectful loss of the device. We expect all students to properly use their device and to secure it when it is not being used. If the device is used improperly or is not secured while the student is not using it, families will be expected to pay the full cost of replacement or repair.

Passes Required for Elevator Use
|
As we start the 2024-2025 school year please note that in order to use the elevator, students are required to check out an elevator pass in the Main Office with Mrs. Benedict.
The ONLY students who should be using the elevator are students with medical conditions. If a student is seen using the elevator without a pass that has been checked out, they will receive progressive discipline.

Reminder: Report a Student’s Absence in ParentVUE
|
Attendance matters! Regular attendance is one of the most powerful ways you can prepare your student for success — both in school and in life. Students are expected to attend school every day, for the full day. But if your student misses school, all Northshore families now have an easy way to report their student’s absence using ParentVUE.
All schools in the district can now receive notifications of student absences using ParentVUE, and we encourage you to give it a try. Using ParentVUE to let your school know your student will be absent simplifies the process for our school offices and is simple for families, requiring just a handful of clicks.

Reflections is so much more than "just an art contest". It helps students be inspired, think creatively, take risks, receive positive recognition and to be celebrated for their works of art. It also allows our community to celebrate creativity in our students!
Students create their work of art and write a short artist statement based on the theme "Accepting Imperfection"; judging is based on both the artwork and artist statement in one or more of 6 different categories: visual arts, photography, literature, music composition, dance choreography, and film production.
The top entries from the 6 categories (up to 20 pieces) will have their art celebrated at a districtwide showcase in January, and may be invited to WA State or National competitions.
Submissions are due November 22nd by noon. Students can now submit their own entries by clicking HERE. Be sure to visit our WEBSITE for specific information on each category and submission requirements. Questions? Email reflections@woodinvillehighschoolptsa.org
