Those approved can pay for the hanger in person at the Cashier's/Main Office during non-class time or online through Touchbase. Once payment has been made, the hanger can be picked up with the receipt from Campus Supervisor Alan Dillman in office 730.

Drop Off and Pick Up Reminders: Safety First
Falcon Parents, Guardians, and Students,

A reminder, for everyone's safety, that dropping off or picking up students in the WHS Bus Zone is not allowed. It's imperative that this area remains clear for school bus drop off and pick up only. Bus drivers cannot see students that run across the bus zone in front of them to get into or exit a car.

Additionally, students must not cross 195th Street NE at the Bus Zone entrance. There is not a crosswalk at this location. Students should not be dropped off or picked up alongside 195th Street NE.

For drop off/pick up, please use the designated Main Office Drop-Off Loop.

Furthermore, for students that have permission to park in the 600 Building Lot, extreme caution must be used when leaving campus to not dart out of the lot in front of incoming school buses.

Thank you for your prompt attention to this important safety matter.

If you should have any questions, please reach out to Campus Supervisor Shaina Bloomquist or Campus Supervisor Alan Dillman.

Counselor's Corner

Hi Falcons!

As we move into the 2nd quarter and the days get shorter, cloudy, wet, and gray, we want to remind you and your student to find ways to care for your mental health.

Here are some ways to help reduce stress:
  • Exercise, go for a walk or run, or do your favorite activity to get out and moving around
  • Practice mindfulness, pay attention to your thoughts and feeling, they become your actions
  • Care for others, send a text, write a note, deliver food, or say something nice to make another feel better
  • Sleep, never underestimate the power of a good night’s sleep

In reviewing your student's 1st quarter grades, check if they are doing as well as you hoped.
If not, there is still time to raise grades before they are final in January at the semester.

Here are some steps to improving grades:
  • Talk to the teacher: advise your student to ask questions, get clarification, AND stay after school for help
  • See the counselor: have your student see their counselor to create a plan to get back on track
  • Peer Tutors: counselors have a list of tutors who want to help, have your student reach out to their counselor

College Applications:
They are in full swing! We know our seniors are working hard to meet application deadlines, on top of academics, sports, clubs, work and so on. Give your senior a pat on the back and support them through this incredibly busy time. And, please pay attention to their stress level and mental health. The holidays can add another layer of stress. If your student does not have their post-grad plan yet, counselors will be working with them in the coming months.

With the holidays coming up, here are two local resources for food assistance:

Maltby Food Bank
Woodinville Storehouse

Please know that your WHS Counseling Team is here to provide support and help in any way possible

social media
Social Media, Texting & Your Teen
A gentle reminder to continue communicating with your teen about the appropriate use of social media and electronic devices. You are encouraged to have direct conversations with your student about the impact words, texts, posts, and actions can have on each other and possibly the learning environment. When conversations outside of school begin to disrupt the learning environment behaviors on social media and cell phones may lead to consequences.

Remember the game of telephone where the message being relayed starts with one message and ends with a different message? That can happen frequently with adolescents, and the use of technology and cell phones complicates it greatly, as messages can be quickly shared, reaching many people at once.

Please continue to encourage your student to share any concerns they have, particularly if a social media post and/or text has made them feel unsafe. If they aren’t comfortable sharing directly with staff, families can always anonymously submit concerns using our Safe Schools Alert System:

Thank you for your partnership in these efforts. Together, we can keep our school environment focused on learning within a positive environment.

Upcoming College Visits
ATTEND A COLLEGE VISIT at WHS!
One of the more important opportunities available this fall is the college admissions representative visits. College admissions reps from campuses across the state and country are scheduled to visit Woodinville HS to meet with interested students. We have a huge list of colleges already on the schedule and they are very excited to meet you.

This is one of the few opportunities available to meet the person who may be reading your college application, ask questions about the particular campus, and gather helpful information to use during your college research and the admission/application process.

To see an updated list of upcoming college visits, please look at the right hand side of this webpage or go into Naviance under Colleges, College Visits!

Reduced or Waived Fees 2024-25 Applications
Parents and guardians whose income falls within specified guidelines set by the U.S. Department of Agriculture should apply for free or reduced-price meals for their students. Applications were available August 1st and are due by October 14th to avoid an interruption in benefits (only one application is required per family), but families can apply at any time during the year – throughout the year.

If you qualify for Free or Reduced Meals you may also qualify for:
  • School fee waivers (a fee waiver consent form must be completed) in addition to the Free and Reduced application.
  • See below for more information or contact your school counselor (available after August 26).
  • Other services such as health insurance.
  • Contact Nurse Christie Callahan or Jennifer Gardner for more information.
The free and reduced online application only takes a few minutes and is the fastest, easiest way to get approved. Find the online application here: https://linqconnect.com/. Further information can be found on NSD’s Food Services website at https://www.nsd.org/schools/get-started/food-services/free-and-reduced-price-breakfast-lunch.

Student Device Protection Plan
The Northshore School District provides each student with a district-issued technology device. When students/families assume responsibility for a district-issued device, they sign forms agreeing to accept financial responsibility for any device damage or loss. We know accidents and loss can happen. The Student Device Protection Plan provides NSD families an optional path to mitigate the financial liability of using a district device.

PARTICIPATION COST: The standard payment to enroll in the NSD Student Device Protection Plan is $25 per year; free for students who have qualified for free or reduced-price meals and who have provided consent to share their status for fee waivers. No refunds will be given once enrolled in this program.

COVERAGE AND BENEFIT: This program covers the device (Chromebook, Macbook, or iPad) loaned to your student against accidental damage for the school year. This program does NOT cover damage resulting from misuse or neglectful loss of the device. We expect all students to properly use their device and to secure it when it is not being used. If the device is used improperly or is not secured while the student is not using it, families will be expected to pay the full cost of replacement or repair.

Passes Required for Elevator Use
As we start the 2024-2025 school year please note that in order to use the elevator, students are required to check out an elevator pass in the Main Office with Mrs. Benedict.

The ONLY students who should be using the elevator are students with medical conditions. If a student is seen using the elevator without a pass that has been checked out, they will receive progressive discipline.

Reminder: Report a Student’s Absence in ParentVUE
Attendance matters! Regular attendance is one of the most powerful ways you can prepare your student for success — both in school and in life. Students are expected to attend school every day, for the full day. But if your student misses school, all Northshore families now have an easy way to report their student’s absence using ParentVUE.

All schools in the district can now receive notifications of student absences using ParentVUE, and we encourage you to give it a try. Using ParentVUE to let your school know your student will be absent simplifies the process for our school offices and is simple for families, requiring just a handful of clicks.

Visit the Report an Absence website to learn more or log in to ParentVUE.

WHS Students Help Neighbors Clean Up After Bomb Cyclone Damage
A group of Woodinville Falcons, Maysen Bury, Jayden Bury, and Kyson Kleve, made the best out of a dark situation. With no power, no school and no way to play video games with WiFi, they decided to go help out their local community.

The group of Falcon boys went door to door asking if people needed help by bringing electric saws, rakes, and other tools to help their neighbors clear their driveways and properties. The boys spent the two days off from school sweeping up all the debris, cutting the fallen trees or anything else the neighbors needed and taking everything they cleaned up to dispose.

Speech and Debate Club News
The WHS Speech and Debate Club competed in the Bellingham online tournament and it went really well for our students!

We had several new students compete, and they did an incredible job! Here are the students that participated in novice events:

  1. Alishba Mohammad and Julia Faulhaber - Novice Public Forum Debate
  2. Emiliano Trejo Rodriquez and Evenne Burgess - Novice Public Forum Debate
  3. Shaan Paracha - Novice Lincoln Douglas debate
  4. Henry Birkholz - Spontaneous argument
  5. Mason Jenks - Novice Impromptu Speech
Additionally, Ian Miller and Mohammad Kazmi competed in Open Lincoln Douglas debate. Both of them had tough rounds in a very competitive category.

WHS students have continued to compete in spontaneous argument (SPAR) and have continued to win. This has consistently been an event our students have been successful in. However, this is the first time WHS has had what is called a "close out"- which means WHS took the top 3 spots in the event. Not only did they take the top 3 spots, but they also took the 5th and 6th spots as well!

First place: Donovan Cheng
Second place: Dexter Chastney
Third place: Quinn Mizushima
Fifth place: Guy O'Connell
Sixth place: Anirudh Deval

The big news from this tournament is about open public forum debate.

Guy O'Connell and Eshaan Chowdhry are the first public forum debate team from WHS to earn a bid to state! They went against some really hard teams in the preliminary rounds and then broke to semifinals, which secured them a bid to state. It was a tough round and a loss to Overlake, but Guy and Eshaan competed well during the entire round.

This tournament was a huge win for our Speech and Debate Club!
