calendar
Current 9th, 10th, & 11th-Grade Falcons
Distribution: Tuesday, February 11
Due online in StudentVUE: Monday, March 3, 11:59p

Plans are in place for your student’s registration and course selections for the 2025-26 school year!

On Tuesday, February 11, during Activity Tuesday, your student will receive a presentation regarding course registration for the 2025-26 school year and how to enter courses into StudentVue. You will be able to access instructions on February 7 and beyond by watching the registration video found on our website, as well as viewing the 2025-26 Course Catalog at that time. In order to be registered for courses for the following school year, please ensure your student has entered their Courses directly into StudentVue by Monday, March 3, 11:59p.

Student’s will use the Registration packet and Course Catalog found on the WHS Website as a resource when reviewing courses for the 2025-26 school year. Parents/guardians are encouraged to review their students' Course Requests in ParentVue. Paper registration worksheets are also available in the Counseling Office or can be printed in the library.

Please note counseling staff will be available for students during both lunches outside the College & Career Center on Tuesday, February 25 to answer inquiries. Additionally, counselors will be meeting individually with each of their students between March 10th and 28th. During this time, they will review your student’s course requests, answer any questions, and ensure your student is on track for graduation and planning for college.

As the master schedule of courses developed for the 2025-26 school year, along with corresponding staffing decisions, will be based on the course requests students make at this time, students are encouraged to process their choices and weigh all the options carefully before making final selections. Schedule change requests may not be honored next school year.

Thank you! We look forward to our continued partnership throughout your student’s educational journey at WH
From The Attendance Office
District Attendance Process Change: Morning & Evening Notifications
To better ensure student safety by communicating absences earlier to secondary families, starting Tuesday, January 28 if parents/guardians do not notify the attendance office of their student’s absence or late arrival, parents/guardians can expect to receive notifications from the district alerting them in the morning and or evening. This District process change is for your student’s safety and to ensure our records are accurate.

Please note it does take time for our attendance secretary to reconcile families’ reporting within our attendance system, and we appreciate your patience:

  • If you have reported your student’s absence to the attendance office in the morning (or the evening before) and receive a morning attendance notification, please disregard the message as multiple attendance notifications from parents/guardians slows down the reconciliation process.
  • Our attendance secretary will be making every effort to record and reconcile all incoming absence notifications as quickly as possible before the morning notification is sent.

Thank you for your diligence in promoting and encouraging your student’s regular, punctual attendance and please remember to let our school know when your student is absent:
Report an Absence in 4 Simple Steps

While we know regular attendance is one of the most powerful ways to prepare your student for success, we also know that sometimes students must miss school for a variety of reasons. Next time that happens for your family, let our attendance office know through ParentVUE:
1.    Login to ParentVUE*
2.    Click the “Report Absence” button next to the name of your absent student
3.    Fill in the fields with the date(s) of the absence and provide an explanation
  • For example, describe if it is a full-day absence or if leaving early or arriving late, provide a specific time
4.    Click to submit, automatically notifying the school of the absence
Learn more or view step-by-step images and instructions. You can use this method to report an absence of up to 4 days. As a reminder, an absence of 5 days or longer requires families to submit a Notice of Pre-Arranged Extended Absence Form.

You can support your student and our attendance office in these changes by using ParentVUE to make attendance notifications as early as possible.

*Need to Set Up ParentVUE?

If you have not yet requested a ParentVUE account, request a 7-digit activation key from our attendance office. The ParentVUE app is also available for mobile phones on Google Play or the App Store. See below for more information about the ParentVUE Mobile App.

2nd Semester Schedules Confirmed
Counselors have enjoyed working with students to prepare for 2nd semester. We have completed schedule changes and are excited by the growth shown by our learners.

Historically, we see a shift in how students approach 2nd semester, as the “bumps” of 1st semester begin to smooth out. By 2nd semester, students usually feel more comfortable talking with teachers and understanding the ebb and flow of managing homework and testing. Second semester is the time for students to continue their self advocacy skills and embrace their role as an engaged learner. As always, we encourage students to reach out if they need support!

Safe Schools Reminder
The beginning of a new year provides a good opportunity to remind students and families of our commitment to student, family, and staff safety, as well as avenues available if you or your student has concerns you wish to share with us. Our school works closely in collaboration with law enforcement, District Safety and Security, and District administrators to ensure your concerns are taken seriously and are addressed promptly. We must be vigilant in the protection of our school community, and we value and appreciate our partnership with you. We can't do it alone.

If you or your student sees or hears something concerning, please say something. If at any time you or your student believes you have knowledge of any situation where danger is imminent, dial 911 immediately.  And please continue to encourage your student to share any concerns with a trusted staff member. If they aren’t comfortable sharing directly with staff, concerns can always be anonymously submitted using our Safe Schools Alert System:

pta essay contest
WA State PTA Essay Contest
The Washington State PTA essay contest explores the important and varied influencers in the lives and education of children – from the children’s perspective.

Every day children are exposed to a variety of people and each one has an opportunity to influence the path a child decides to take. Whether it is someone that sparks an interest in a new topic, helps them work through a problem, shapes the kind of person they want to become by modeling behavior, simply listens to them, or any number of other actions, this is the platform for students to share their appreciation.

To help celebrate the people that are most important in influencing the lives of children around the state of Washington, the objective of this contest is for students of all ages and abilities to write an essay about an influential role model that has had a profound impact on their life. The influential role model must be a real person that the student has interacted with, not a fictional character. These essays, from the students’ perspectives, will serve to inspire and acknowledge amazing individuals. The essay must be no more than 650 words. The student must personally know the influential person that they are writing about. Link here for more info https://www.wastatepta.org/events-programs/pta-essay-contest/

Student Device Protection Plan
The Northshore School District provides each student with a district-issued technology device. When students/families assume responsibility for a district-issued device, they sign forms agreeing to accept financial responsibility for any device damage or loss. We know accidents and loss can happen. The Student Device Protection Plan provides NSD families an optional path to mitigate the financial liability of using a district device.

PARTICIPATION COST: The standard payment to enroll in the NSD Student Device Protection Plan is $25 per year; free for students who have qualified for free or reduced-price meals and who have provided consent to share their status for fee waivers. No refunds will be given once enrolled in this program.

COVERAGE AND BENEFIT: This program covers the device (Chromebook, Macbook, or iPad) loaned to your student against accidental damage for the school year. This program does NOT cover damage resulting from misuse or neglectful loss of the device. We expect all students to properly use their device and to secure it when it is not being used. If the device is used improperly or is not secured while the student is not using it, families will be expected to pay the full cost of replacement or repair.
