WHS Celebrates EIGHT National Merit Finalists!
Great news! WHS is honored to announce that Daniel Baerwald, Bianca Bensen, Calder Davis, Cindy Liang, Jishnu Mehta, Ryan Pascual, Elisa Reed, and Ava Wahl have been named as National Merit Finalists by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation! Finalists represent less than one-half of 1 percent of the 1.5 million students who took the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test nationwide in fall of their junior year.

These EIGHT seniors will be considered for National Merit Scholarship Awards to be awarded this spring and may receive other offers because of their standings as National Merit Finalists! Congratulations Daniel, Bianca, Calder, Cindy, Jishnu, Ryan, Elisa, and Ava and their families on this remarkable achievement!

Course Requests Due in StudentVue by Monday March 3 (For current 9th, 10th, & 11th)
To ensure students are fully scheduled for the 2025-26 school year, students must enter their course requests directly into StudentVue by Monday, March 3. Students will use the registration packet and Course Catalog found under the Counseling website > Registration 2025-26 as a resource when reviewing and selecting courses for next year.

Counselors will be meeting individually with each of their students between March 10th and 28th. During this time, they will review your course requests, answer any questions, and ensure you are on track for graduation and planning for college.

Parents/guardians are encouraged to review their students' Course Requests in ParentVue.

As the master schedule of courses developed for the 2025-26 school year, along with corresponding staffing decisions, will be based on the course requests students make at this time, students are encouraged to process their choices and weigh all the options carefully before making final selections. Schedule change requests may not be honored next school year.

District Attendance Process Change: Morning & Evening Notifications
To better ensure student safety by communicating absences earlier to secondary families, starting Tuesday, January 28 if parents/guardians do not notify the attendance office of their student’s absence or late arrival, parents/guardians can expect to receive notifications from the district alerting them in the morning and or evening. This District process change is for your student’s safety and to ensure our records are accurate.

Please note it does take time for our attendance secretary to reconcile families’ reporting within our attendance system, and we appreciate your patience:

  • If you have reported your student’s absence to the attendance office in the morning (or the evening before) and receive a morning attendance notification, please disregard the message as multiple attendance notifications from parents/guardians slows down the reconciliation process.
  • Our attendance secretary will be making every effort to record and reconcile all incoming absence notifications as quickly as possible before the morning notification is sent.

Thank you for your diligence in promoting and encouraging your student’s regular, punctual attendance and please remember to let our school know when your student is absent:
Report an Absence in 4 Simple Steps

While we know regular attendance is one of the most powerful ways to prepare your student for success, we also know that sometimes students must miss school for a variety of reasons. Next time that happens for your family, let our attendance office know through ParentVUE:
1.    Login to ParentVUE*
2.    Click the “Report Absence” button next to the name of your absent student
3.    Fill in the fields with the date(s) of the absence and provide an explanation
  • For example, describe if it is a full-day absence or if leaving early or arriving late, provide a specific time
4.    Click to submit, automatically notifying the school of the absence

Learn more or view step-by-step images and instructions. You can use this method to report an absence of up to 4 days. As a reminder, an absence of 5 days or longer requires families to submit a Notice of Pre-Arranged Extended Absence Form.

You can support your student and our attendance office in these changes by using ParentVUE to make attendance notifications as early as possible.

*Need to Set Up ParentVUE?

If you have not yet requested a ParentVUE account, request a 7-digit activation key from our attendance office. The ParentVUE app is also available for mobile phones on Google Play or the App Store. See below for more information about the ParentVUE Mobile App.

Reduced or Waived Fees 2024-25 Applications
Parents and guardians whose income falls within specified guidelines set by the U.S. Department of Agriculture should apply for free or reduced-price meals for their students. Applications were available August 1st and were due by October 14th to avoid an interruption in benefits (only one application is required per family), but families can apply at any time during the year – throughout the year.

If you qualify for Free or Reduced Meals you may also qualify for:
  • School fee waivers (a fee waiver consent form must be completed) in addition to the Free and Reduced application.

  • Other services such as health insurance.
  • Contact Nurse Christie Callahan or Jennifer Gardner for more information.
The free and reduced online application only takes a few minutes and is the fastest, easiest way to get approved. Find the online application here: https://linqconnect.com/. School Closure Make-up Days
This school year, we have experienced weather-related school closures on multiple days, and there is the possibility of additional school delays or closures still to come this school year. The 2024-25 calendar includes the emergency make-up days to help families prepare in advance. Please keep in mind the potential for additional make-up days as your family considers summer activities. The final version of the 2024-25 one-page family calendar will be communicated by the District in March.

Safe Schools Reminder
The beginning of a new year provides a good opportunity to remind students and families of our commitment to student, family, and staff safety, as well as avenues available if you or your student has concerns you wish to share with us. Our school works closely in collaboration with law enforcement, District Safety and Security, and District administrators to ensure your concerns are taken seriously and are addressed promptly. We must be vigilant in the protection of our school community, and we value and appreciate our partnership with you. We can't do it alone.

If you or your student sees or hears something concerning, please say something. If at any time you or your student believes you have knowledge of any situation where danger is imminent, dial 911 immediately.  And please continue to encourage your student to share any concerns with a trusted staff member. If they aren’t comfortable sharing directly with staff, concerns can always be anonymously submitted using our Safe Schools Alert System:

Weather & Emergency Information
Emergencies and weather-related problems can alter school schedules and affect bus transportation for students.

If weather conditions make a schedule change necessary, we will communicate the decision through the following methods and in this order:

  • TV and Radio Stations. You can also sign up for Flashalert to get the same media information.
  • District and School Websites
  • Northshore School District social media:
  • Instagram: @teamnorthshore
  • Twitter: @Northshore_SD
  • Facebook: Northshore School District
  • Phone calls, emails, and text messages: Staff and families will receive an email, phone call, and text. These communications will begin between 5:30 and 5:45 a.m.
  • Northshore Information Line: You may also call the District’s information line, 425-408-6001, beginning at 6 a.m. Monday through Friday for school closure information.

Student Device Protection Plan
The Northshore School District provides each student with a district-issued technology device. When students/families assume responsibility for a district-issued device, they sign forms agreeing to accept financial responsibility for any device damage or loss. We know accidents and loss can happen. The Student Device Protection Plan provides NSD families an optional path to mitigate the financial liability of using a district device.

PARTICIPATION COST: The standard payment to enroll in the NSD Student Device Protection Plan is $25 per year; free for students who have qualified for free or reduced-price meals and who have provided consent to share their status for fee waivers. No refunds will be given once enrolled in this program.

COVERAGE AND BENEFIT: This program covers the device (Chromebook, Macbook, or iPad) loaned to your student against accidental damage for the school year. This program does NOT cover damage resulting from misuse or neglectful loss of the device. We expect all students to properly use their device and to secure it when it is not being used. If the device is used improperly or is not secured while the student is not using it, families will be expected to pay the full cost of replacement or repair.
