April 18, 2025
thank you volunteers

Public School Volunteer Week!

Many thanks to Woodinville's outstanding volunteers!

Woodinville High School is incredibly fortunate to have so many parents, guardians, and community volunteers who are making a difference in the lives of our students. Every day, their volunteerism contributes to the success of our Learning Community through their support of a wide variety of classes, activities, and events.

This week, April 21-25 is Public School Volunteer Week and we are honored to recognize and thank each and every volunteer, named and unnamed, who has generously given their time, creativity, and energy in support of our kids!

A shout out to some of this year’s amazing volunteers!

WHS PTSA:
Our wonderful PTSA continued to go above and beyond this year providing valuable opportunities and services both inside and outside of the classroom:
Our PTSA Executive Board: President Candace Wenzel, Vice President of Fundraising Traci Tenhulzen, Treasurer Lori Burkman, and Secretary Audrey Kozel and the Board of Directors/Committee Chairs: Shannon Dias (Communications), Kim Norris (Grants), Terri Kashi (Staff Appreciation & HiCap), Amy Flinn (Staff Appreciation), Stephanie Hennessy (Hospitality), Denise Need (Scholarships & Special Education), Jenn Drury (Northshore Council Rep), Kate Dick (Northshore School Foundation), Amy Cast (Legislative), Ali van de Heuvel (Emergency Preparedness & Nominating Committee), Allison Torgesen (Membership & Website), Brooke Jones (Nominating Committee), Audrey Kozel (Nominating Committee) and Heather Jenks (Reflections) deserve our praise and thanks for serving countless hours, providing outstanding support of our students and staff, and for keeping our PTSA invigorated with new ideas, while continuing to celebrate Falcon traditions we all enjoy. Thanks to all those named and unnamed who provided fabulous staff appreciation treats and lunches, as well! Our staff has felt valued and thanked!

Main Office/Counseling Office:
Thank you to our wonderful Copy Brigade volunteers. All the staff at WHS truly appreciate the invaluable services you have provided through our in-house printing program! This includes the countless copies made and laminating projects supported, as well as organizing our Main Office Work Room and providing office support to numerous other projects. These ladies are amazing and we appreciate all of them greatly! Thank you to Tina Muzzy, Maria Burac, Stephanie Hennessy, and Terri Kashi!

Speech and Debate Team:
The Speech & Debate Club cannot run without having parents and former students volunteer their time to help with judging at tournaments. We owe all of these judges more than recognition and a thank you- they put in several hours during each tournament to help with judging, and our students would not be eligible to compete without their help. Thank you to those who volunteered to judge during the 24-25 Speech & Debate season.

The Play That Goes Wrong tickets are on sale now!

Report an Absence in 4 Simple Steps

While we know regular attendance is one of the most powerful ways to prepare your student for success, we also know that sometimes students must miss school for a variety of reasons. Next time that happens for your family, let our attendance office know through ParentVUE:
1.    Login to ParentVUE*
2.    Click the “Report Absence” button next to the name of your absent student
3.    Fill in the fields with the date(s) of the absence and provide an explanation
  • For example, describe if it is a full-day absence or if leaving early or arriving late, provide a specific time
4.    Click to submit, automatically notifying the school of the absence

Learn more or view step-by-step images and instructions. You can use this method to report an absence of up to 4 days. As a reminder, an absence of 5 days or longer requires families to submit a Notice of Pre-Arranged Extended Absence Form.

You can support your student and our attendance office in these changes by using ParentVUE to make attendance notifications as early as possible.

*Need to Set Up ParentVUE?

If you have not yet requested a ParentVUE account, request a 7-digit activation key from our attendance office. The ParentVUE app is also available for mobile phones on Google Play or the App Store. See below for more information about the ParentVUE Mobile App.

Counselor's Corner

Spring, Seniors, and SBAC, oh my!

We are excited to see the return of sunshine and warmer weather! While we welcome all that spring brings, these elements are not always helpful, especially for seniors who are fighting with symptoms of Senioritis or for students struggling with school avoidance. Graduation and the end of the school year are right around the corner, and we encourage students to stay the course. Connecting with teachers, attending classes on a regular basis, and practicing those strong student skills are strategies needed now more than ever.

Spring is also the time for SBAC and AP testing. Students might feel an increased amount of stress as they prepare to do their best on these tests. We encourage students to be well rested, practicing healthy habits (i.e.: eating and exercising) and utilizing strategies to minimize their stress (i.e.: listening to music, going for a walk, talking with friends/family/counselors). This is an exciting time to shine and celebrate knowledge!

College Planning Resources

Juniors, spring is a great time to start planning for life after high school. While we don't expect you to have your plans set in stone, we do encourage you to start thinking about what your path might look like after graduation.
  • Check out our website for college planning resources.
  • Log into your Naviance account to utilize the Super-Match College Search engine to research colleges.
  • Check out some college campuses (in person or virtually: https://campustours.com/)
  • Use Naviance to organize colleges you're interested in using the "Colleges I am Thinking About" tool.
  • Research college admission requirements, for example: will you need to ask a teacher to write a letter of recommendation for you?
  • While some colleges are waiving the testing expectation for admission, you still may want to sign up to take the ACT or SAT.
  • Counselors are looking forward to collaborating more with you around the college admission process this spring, but do not hesitate to reach out with any questions in the meantime!

2024-25 School Year Calendar Update: Last Day of School is June 20, 2025

Last week, the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction informed Northshore that the requested waiver for two inclement weather days was approved.
  • Northshore's updated last day of school for K-11th grade students is Friday, June 20, which will be a partial day. (WHS will operate on Last Student Day Schedule #28.)
  • Tuesday, June 17 and Wednesday, June 18 will be full days of school.
  • As a reminder, June 19 is a holiday (Juneteenth), and schools are closed.

Dismissal times for the last day of school, June 20, are listed on Start and Dismissal Times webpage.

Because Northshore schools were closed for weather-related issues for a number of days this winter, we have not met our state-required instructional hours. This means that instructional hours will need to be made up on two Wednesdays that were previously scheduled to be Early Release Wednesdays: April 30 and May 7. These two days – April 30 and May 7 – are now full days of school.

Revised one-page family calendars are posted to the district website. These updated calendars are available in English, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, Ukrainian, Hindi, Chinese - simplified, and Chinese - traditional.

Safe Schools Reminder

The beginning of a new year provides a good opportunity to remind students and families of our commitment to student, family, and staff safety, as well as avenues available if you or your student has concerns you wish to share with us. Our school works closely in collaboration with law enforcement, District Safety and Security, and District administrators to ensure your concerns are taken seriously and are addressed promptly. We must be vigilant in the protection of our school community, and we value and appreciate our partnership with you. We can't do it alone.

If you or your student sees or hears something concerning, please say something. If at any time you or your student believes you have knowledge of any situation where danger is imminent, dial 911 immediately.  And please continue to encourage your student to share any concerns with a trusted staff member. If they aren’t comfortable sharing directly with staff, concerns can always be anonymously submitted using our Safe Schools Alert System:

Student Device Protection Plan

The Northshore School District provides each student with a district-issued technology device. When students/families assume responsibility for a district-issued device, they sign forms agreeing to accept financial responsibility for any device damage or loss. We know accidents and loss can happen. The Student Device Protection Plan provides NSD families an optional path to mitigate the financial liability of using a district device.

PARTICIPATION COST: The standard payment to enroll in the NSD Student Device Protection Plan is $25 per year; free for students who have qualified for free or reduced-price meals and who have provided consent to share their status for fee waivers. No refunds will be given once enrolled in this program.

COVERAGE AND BENEFIT: This program covers the device (Chromebook, Macbook, or iPad) loaned to your student against accidental damage for the school year. This program does NOT cover damage resulting from misuse or neglectful loss of the device. We expect all students to properly use their device and to secure it when it is not being used. If the device is used improperly or is not secured while the student is not using it, families will be expected to pay the full cost of replacement or repair.
