As we round the corner to warmer weather, please remember that our lakes and rivers are still dangerously cold. Even if the top few inches of water feel warm to the touch, know that everything below that can take your breath away! This causes a reflex that has been known to drown people in our region every year.
Please read the information in the links below so that everyone can have fun in the water and STAY SAFE!

As the school year wraps up, students and families may face challenges during the shift into summer. To support your community, we’ve created a Transition into Summer Kit—a ready-to-use resource designed to guide families through a healthy, intentional transition.
Families can access the following worksheets:
-
Summer Tips for Families: To aid the transition into summer.
-
Summer Intention Setting: A guided activity to help families foster purpose and joy.
-
Healthy Summer Habits: Tips on screen time, stress, and routine to encourage balance.
-
How to Find a therapist: A guide to accessing support through the summer months.
As the school year winds down, many families breathe a collective sigh of relief. The pressure of schedules, assignments, and daily routines begins to ease. However, the transition into summer can also bring its own set of emotional and mental health challenges. Shifts in routine, less structure, and increased family time (or lack of connection, depending on circumstances) can affect everyone's well-being in different ways.
|
Here are some therapist-approved tips to help students and families prioritize mental health during the summer months:
1. Keep a Healthy Routine (Without Over-Scheduling)
Having some predictable structure can be very grounding—especially for teens. Try to maintain consistent wake-up times, meal routines, and bedtimes. A loose daily plan that includes physical and social activities, as well as relaxation, can prevent the feeling of aimlessness that sometimes contributes to low mood or anxiety.
2. Prioritize Sleep
Sleep schedules often get disrupted over summer break. However, sleep remains critical for mental and emotional regulation at every age. Aim for 8–10 hours of sleep for teens. Create tech-free wind-down time in the evenings an hour before bedtime.
3. Build in Meaningful Screen Breaks
With more free time, screen usage tends to spike—sometimes at the expense of real-world connection and mental health. Encourage “tech-free” blocks during the day, especially in the morning and before bed. Use this time to engage in offline activities like reading, board games, or going for a walk together.
5. Get Outside—Daily if Possible
Nature has a powerful impact on mental health. Even short walks, outdoor play, or sitting in a green space can reduce stress and improve mood. Make it a family/individual priority to spend some time outside every day—even if it’s just for 15 minutes.
6. Make Time for Connection
For some students, school is their main source of social contact. Families can help by encouraging social interactions through in person ‘hang outs’, camps, or community events. At the same time, build in regular family connection time—meals together, movie nights, or even shared chores can foster closeness.
8. Support Transitions and Emotions
Some students may be feeling anxious about upcoming changes—like starting a new school, moving, or just transitioning grades. Validate those feelings. Offer space to talk about worries and remind them that it’s okay not to have all the answers. Change often brings discomfort, and that discomfort doesn’t mean something is wrong—it just means something new is happening.
9. Don’t Be Afraid to Seek Support
Just because its summer doesn’t mean mental health concerns go on vacation. If your child or teen is showing signs of depression, anxiety, or emotional distress—such as persistent irritability, withdrawal, changes in sleep or appetite, or talk of self-harm—reach out to a mental health professional. Early support can make a significant difference.

A Final Thought:
Summer is a unique opportunity to slow down, reconnect, and reset. By weaving in simple mental health practices, families can help teens build emotional resilience—not just for the summer, but for life. The most important is to create a sense of safety, acceptance, and support within the home. That’s where well-being begins.

While we know regular attendance is one of the most powerful ways to prepare your student for success, we also know that sometimes students must miss school for a variety of reasons. Next time that happens for your family, let our attendance office know through ParentVUE:
2. Click the “Report Absence” button next to the name of your absent student
3. Fill in the fields with the date(s) of the absence and provide an explanation
- For example, describe if it is a full-day absence or if leaving early or arriving late, provide a specific time
4. Click to submit, automatically notifying the school of the absence
You can support your student and our attendance office in these changes by using ParentVUE to make attendance notifications as early as possible.
*Need to Set Up ParentVUE?

Last week, the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction informed Northshore that the requested waiver for two inclement weather days was approved.
-
Northshore's updated last day of school for K-11th grade students is Friday, June 20, which will be a partial day. (WHS will operate on Last Student Day Schedule #28.)
- Tuesday, June 17 and Wednesday, June 18 will be full days of school.
- As a reminder, June 19 is a holiday (Juneteenth), and schools are closed.
Because Northshore schools were closed for weather-related issues for a number of days this winter, we have not met our state-required instructional hours. This means that instructional hours will need to be made up on two Wednesdays that were previously scheduled to be Early Release Wednesdays: April 30 and May 7. These two days – April 30 and May 7 – are now full days of school.
Revised one-page family calendars are posted to the district website. These updated calendars are available in English, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, Ukrainian, Hindi, Chinese - simplified, and Chinese - traditional.

Northshore School District
May 5, 2025
Dear Northshore Families and Staff:
We recognize that summer can be a challenging time for our families who need additional support for their Northshore students. Our community has come together to support Northshore students with two important programs: Community-Supported Summer Food Program and Northshore Schools Foundation’s Backpacks for Kids.
Participate in the Programs
In response, multiple community organizations and volunteers have come together to ensure that no Northshore student goes hungry during the summer months and everyone who needs a new backpack to start the 2025-26 school year gets one. For the food program, non-perishable items will be delivered to the homes of families that enroll in the community-supported program every two weeks. For Backpacks for Kids, the backpacks and supplies will be distributed to families through their student’s school in late summer.
If you are interested in receiving meal support or a backpack and school supplies, please enroll by completing this form.
Your submission is confidential and will only be shared with Northshore staff that are coordinating the program, district-approved volunteers supporting the food distribution, and the Northshore Schools Foundation. The food program will include deliveries from late June through August.

The beginning of a new year provides a good opportunity to remind students and families of our commitment to student, family, and staff safety, as well as avenues available if you or your student has concerns you wish to share with us. Our school works closely in collaboration with law enforcement, District Safety and Security, and District administrators to ensure your concerns are taken seriously and are addressed promptly. We must be vigilant in the protection of our school community, and we value and appreciate our partnership with you. We can't do it alone.
If you or your student sees or hears something concerning, please say something. If at any time you or your student believes you have knowledge of any situation where danger is imminent, dial 911 immediately. And please continue to encourage your student to share any concerns with a trusted staff member. If they aren’t comfortable sharing directly with staff, concerns can always be anonymously submitted using our Safe Schools Alert System:

Thank you to everyone who donated and helped for our last Staff Appreciation lunch. The luau was a success! Thanks to our chairs Amy Flinn and Terri Kashi and the rest of their team for making all of these lunches a special event for the staff!

Hello Falcon Families,
It may be a cliché to ask, but where has the year gone? It feels like just yesterday we were welcoming everyone at Falcon Days, registering for classes, gathering for Curriculum Night, and gearing up for the holidays. As 2025 unfolded, we quickly turned our focus to graduation, grade-level transitions, and 8th graders preparing to start high school. I hope this year has been a rewarding one for both you and your student(s).
Throughout the year, the PTSA has remained committed to supporting our students, staff, and administration. I’m proud to share the many ways we’ve worked together to strengthen and enrich the Woodinville High School community. While our officers and committee chairs help guide our mission, it’s truly the ongoing support from volunteers and generous contributions—from families and corporate matching programs—that allow us to make a real impact.
Here’s a quick recap of what we accomplished together this year:
- Reached our fundraising goal of $30,000
- Funded over $22,000 in teacher requested grants
- Provided volunteers for school events and activities year-round
- Hosted monthly staff appreciation events
- Ensured key board members received required PTSA training
- Completed our Standards of Affiliation to maintain a strong, resilient PTSA
- Conducted financial reviews to continually strengthen our internal PTSA controls
And we have had a lot of fun along the way! Thank you for being a part of this incredible community. If your student is graduating, we wish them all the best as they take their next steps beyond WHS. And if your student is continuing their journey here, we hope you’ll stay involved with the PTSA and help us keep enhancing the educational experience for all Falcons.
Warm Regards,
Candace Wenzel
President WHS PTSA

The Northshore School District provides each student with a district-issued technology device. When students/families assume responsibility for a district-issued device, they sign forms agreeing to accept financial responsibility for any device damage or loss. We know accidents and loss can happen. The Student Device Protection Plan provides NSD families an optional path to mitigate the financial liability of using a district device.
PARTICIPATION COST: The standard payment to enroll in the NSD Student Device Protection Plan is $25 per year; free for students who have qualified for free or reduced-price meals and who have provided consent to share their status for fee waivers. No refunds will be given once enrolled in this program.
COVERAGE AND BENEFIT: This program covers the device (Chromebook, Macbook, or iPad) loaned to your student against accidental damage for the school year. This program does NOT cover damage resulting from misuse or neglectful loss of the device. We expect all students to properly use their device and to secure it when it is not being used. If the device is used improperly or is not secured while the student is not using it, families will be expected to pay the full cost of replacement or repair.

Junior, Cooper Conley was selected as the WIAA Player of the Week for the week of May 27-June 3. Cooper led Woodinville to the 4A State Championship with a two-goal performance in the title game against Hazen. He scored the game winner with under two minutes remaining, securing the state title for the Falcons with a clutch finish.
Cooper is also the 2024-25 Gatorade Washington Boys Soccer Player of the Year! He is recognized for not just his athletic excellence, but also for his academic achievements (3.81 GPA) and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the field.
The 6-foot-4, 175-pound junior forward led the Falcons to a 20-2 record and the Class 4A state championship this past season. Conley scored 41 goals and passed for four assists, including all nine goals in Woodinville High School’s four-game postseason run to the state title. He netted an overtime game-winner in the state semifinals and the winning goal in the state final in the waning moments of regulation. The KingCo Conference Offensive Player of the Year, he was also a Class 4A First Team All-State selection.
Conley has volunteered locally as a youth soccer coach and has also donated his time as part of multiple community service initiatives through his church congregation. “Cooper has one of the best first touches of any player I’ve seen in the 16 years I’ve been coaching at the high school level,” said Ryan Johnson, head coach of Hazen High School. “He has a high level of anticipation and can either run in behind or bring the ball down with his feet.” Congratulations Cooper!
