Dear Northshore Parents and Guardians of Students in Grades 9-12,
We are writing to inform you that the Northshore School District is required by law to release the directory information of high school students and their parents/guardians directly to the state Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI), which will disburse the info to participating individual colleges and universities in Washington and the state community and technical colleges. This is in place for the purpose of communicating about higher education and financial aid opportunities, as described in RCW 28A.150.515 and RCW 28B.10.041.
What does this mean for parents and guardians?
Parents’ and guardians’ directory information includes names, addresses, email addresses, and telephone numbers. Any parents or guardians who are OK with this information being released to OSPI do not need to take action. Any parent or guardian who does not want this information released to OSPI should complete the permission to withhold parent/guardian directory information form, which is due Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2025. If you want to completely withhold your household’s information from release, each parent/guardian in the household must complete the form.
The permission to withhold student directory information remains in place and is the process to request student directory information be withheld. The due date for this year is Oct. 15, the same date as the permission to withhold parent/guardian directory information.

Costumes are allowed for the school day and at extra-curricular activities within common sense guidelines on Friday, October 31. We want to have fun, but not at anyone else's expense.
Some friendly reminders and guidelines about acceptable clothing that day and, really, any day:
- Cultures are not costumes - be sensitive to our many diverse groups
- Nurture creativity, inclusivity, and respect
- Halloween costumes must not hurt or make fun of other people (in any way)
- Costumes must follow the dress code in the Student Handbook
- Students must be totally identifiable at all times (this includes face paint)
- Appropriate masks for Covid are allowed
- Halloween costume masks or other face coverings not allowed
- Costumes and/or accessories are great so long as they: a) don’t portray or perpetuate stereotypes or denigrate cultures or genders, b) are not distracting to self or others, and c) do not include any weapons (or items that appear to be weapons) or portray images of violence
Have an enjoyable, fun, and safe Halloween!

WHS Theatre Fall Play Much Ado About Nothing Tickets are now available online or in the WHS Office.
The Woodinville High School Theatre Company (WHSTC) is diving back into the world of Shakespeare, offering a modern twist on the classic Shakespearean comedy Much Ado About Nothing. Our production brings Shakespeare’s quintessential battle of wits into the present day, set in the backyard of an LA recording producer’s mansion, complete with an outdoor recording studio and live music. Much Ado About Nothing is a wonderful, joyful, and funny play that is accessible to all audiences; however, it also addresses larger issues involved in navigating relationships, trusting our partners, and doing the right thing, making the play highly relevant to contemporary audiences.
Performances are 10/23-10/25 @ 7:00p plus a matinee on 10/25 at 2:00p. Tickets are $10 w/ASB or $15 for General Admission and are available online at https://gofan.co/app/school/WA23370 or at the WHS cashier’s window. For more info, please go to www.whstc.org

Advanced Placement Exam Registration & Payment is a two-step process (Both parts must be completed for each AP exam to be registered, ordered, and paid for). The deadline for registration and payment is November 14, 2025.
Students - Create a College Board Account: Students need a College Board account to join their AP class section where they receive AP assignments from teachers, get feedback on class progress, and register for AP exams. If you don’t have a student account, go to www.collegeboard.org/register. It is recommended that students use their Northshore email account (@apps.nsd.org) when registering for both Total Registration and the College Board.
Already Have a College Board Account? All College Board programs are connected through one account. If an account was created for AP, PSAT/NMSQT or SAT, you just need your username and password to sign in.
STEP 1: Students login or create a College Board account via myap.collegeboard.org using their NSD email address and enter the “join code” given by their AP teacher to join the class section.
Please note: By joining the class through College Board, students are automatically registered for the exam. If a student does not want to take the exam, they must email Andrea Baleva, abaleva@nsd.org, prior to November 14.
STEP 2: Students PAY for their AP exam fees via www.TotalRegistration.net/AP/481598. (The College Board does not accept payment when registering for an AP exam so we have to use a second party to accept and track exam payment.) AP exams are $108.00 per exam.
IMPORTANT DEADLINES AND INFORMATION
AP Registration and Payment Deadline: November 14, 2025
Late registration fee mandated by College Board: Students may register for an AP exam AFTER November 14th, 2025 and up until March 6, 2026, but will have to pay an additional $40 per exam late order fee.
Any students who qualify for Free & Reduced Lunch are eligible for a fee waiver and will not have to pay for an AP exam. Contact your counselor with any questions.
Students do not need to be enrolled in an AP course to take the AP exam. If you want to take an AP exam and are not enrolled in the AP course, you will still need a join code to register and pay for the exam. Please contact Andrea Baleva, abaleva@nsd.org, to get a join code issued.
CONTACT INFORMATION
Questions? Contact AP Coordinator, Andrea Baleva, abaleva@nsd.org, for general questions regarding AP Exam Registration.

Hello Falcons!
As the school year progresses and students become more involved in classes, clubs, sports, and other activities, many are beginning to settle into routines and identify their priorities. We encourage you to check in regularly with your student about how things are going—academically and otherwise. Talk with them about their classes, homework, and overall start to the year.
A helpful habit is reviewing their StudentVUE account together to look over grades, track progress, and set academic goals.
Here are some ways you can support your student in seeking additional help when needed:
- Encourage them to stay after class for a few minutes to ask questions or arrange a time to meet with their teacher.
- Help them draft an email to their teacher to ask questions or request a meeting.
- Suggest they meet with their school counselor to explore strategies for communicating with teachers and staying on track.
For Seniors: We're Here for You!
College application season can feel overwhelming—but you’re not in it alone. We're here to support you every step of the way.
🎓 Apps & Snacks Kickoff!
Today we launched our first College Apps & Snacks event of the fall! Counselors visited all senior social studies classes to support students as they worked on college applications, explored post-high school options, and took advantage of SchooLinks tools like Find Your Path and career assessments. Whether students knew exactly what they wanted to do next or were just starting to explore, they had the chance to dive into potential careers, education pathways, and how future choices can impact their lifestyle and finances. And of course, dorm-style snacks were on hand to keep the energy up! Stay tuned for more drop-in sessions coming soon.
For more details, check out the info at this link.
More College application resources:
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid ( FAFSA) opened October 1st. All students applying to college will need to complete the FAFSA for the 2025-2026 school year. Check out the WHS Common Application Tip Sheet for more helpful tips and information.
WHS Counseling website: The WHS Counseling website has a plethora of resources ranging from College and Career Readiness links and videos, and High School and Beyond details, and Mental Health resources! Check it out: https://woodinville.nsd.org/counseling
We hope your student is having a great year so far and let us know how we can help!

One of the more important opportunities available this fall is the college admissions representative visits. College admissions reps from campuses across the state and country are scheduled to visit Woodinville HS to meet with interested students. We have a huge list of colleges already on the schedule and they are very excited to meet you.
This is one of the few opportunities available to meet the person who may be reading your college application, ask questions about the particular campus, and gather helpful information to use during your college research and the admission/application process.
To see an updated list of upcoming college visits, please look at the right hand side of this webpage!

The 2025-26 WHS grading policy is returning to the pre-COVID 100-point scale without a grading floor. We remain committed to teaching our students how to develop responsibility and accountability and furthering the education of every student.
|
All students must have a WHS ID card picture taken. The WHS photo ID card is free of charge. Students must carry photo ID at school and at extra-curricular activities at all times.

All photo packages will be mailed home.
Picture packages may be ordered online at dorianstudio.com and searching for Woodinville High School.
Lost Cards
If a student loses an ID/ASB card, check at the Main Office as often they are turned in. If the card cannot be found, lost ID/ASB cards can be replaced for $5.00 at the Cashier's Office. ASB membership can be purchased for $70.
Misprinted Cards
If for some reason a student's ID card is missing the Woodinville logo, has a wrong student number, name or wrong image, please stop by the Cashier's Office, as well, for a reprint free of charge.

The Northshore School District provides each student with a district-issued technology device. When students/families assume responsibility for a district-issued device, they sign forms agreeing to accept financial responsibility for any device damage or loss. We know accidents and loss can happen. The Student Device Protection Plan provides NSD families an optional path to mitigate the financial liability of using a district device.
PARTICIPATION COST: The standard payment to enroll in the NSD Student Device Protection Plan is $25 per year; free for students who have qualified for free or reduced-price meals and who have provided consent to share their status for fee waivers. No refunds will be given once enrolled in this program.
COVERAGE AND BENEFIT: This program covers the device (Chromebook, Macbook, or iPad) loaned to your student against accidental damage for the school year. This program does NOT cover damage resulting from misuse or neglectful loss of the device. We expect all students to properly use their device and to secure it when it is not being used. If the device is used improperly or is not secured while the student is not using it, families will be expected to pay the full cost of replacement or repair.
|
|
In line with NSD Board Policy and Procedure 3245, Woodinville High School will be implementing a limited student device policy during the school day for the 25-26 school year. If students choose to bring their devices to school, students will be expected to store their cell phones upon entering their classrooms in a designated place such as a hanging pocket holder or phone box during class time. This will be determined by the teacher, but all classrooms will have a designated storage space. Students will not be allowed to store their phones in their backpacks or elsewhere on their person. Students will also leave their phones in the classroom if they go to the restroom or take a hall pass elsewhere.
Mobile devices other than cell phones (smart watches, portable gaming devices, etc.) should be in airplane mode or off during instructional time. Teachers may require students to power off or store away any of these additional devices at any time (such as storing smart watches during assessments, for example). Ear buds should be put away and not worn at any time during instruction.
Per the policy, students will also be required to use their district-issued chromebooks for instructional purposes.
During passing periods, lunch, options, before and after school, students may use their devices as long as they are using them within the bounds of the NSD code of conduct.
Thank you for supporting all of our Falcons to be fully focused and engaged in their learning.

|
As we start the 2025-2026 school year please note that in order to use the elevator, students are required to check out an elevator pass in the Main Office with Mrs. Benedict.
The ONLY students who should be using the elevator are students with medical conditions. If a student is seen using the elevator without a pass that has been checked out, they will receive progressive discipline.
|
|
A reminder that students are not to be hanging out in cars or in the parking lots during options or lunch. Students were reminded of this during Falcon Days, is not a new policy, but one that we are returning to reinforcing this year for safety and supervision reasons both for students individually and for all WHS students. We will continue to remind students of this the first two days of school, but expect all students are aware of and following this policy after that.
|
Provided size and other requirements are met, seniors can submit a photograph for the yearbook from whichever professional photographer a family chooses; OR a photograph taken by an amateur; OR seniors can choose to have the free Dorian photo (taken for their required ID card during Falcon Days or on make-up day September 10) published in the yearbook. Learn more about specific requirements on the Yearbook website at https://woodinville.nsd.org/activities/yearbook-2025-26
Class of 2026 Yearbook Questions
Should you have any questions, please email Ms. Alder at salder@nsd.org.
*Details regarding the upload of senior yearbook photos will follow after school starts, well before the October 16 deadline. Once the information becomes available, most professional photographers can upload the image for the senior or can provide the senior with a .jpeg image digitally for the senior to upload themselves.

Our school is participating in the Washington State Healthy Youth Survey during fall 2025. The survey will be given to students in Grades 6, 8, 10 and 12 in large districts and students in Grades 6 through 12 in small school districts.
The Healthy Youth Survey includes questions related to physical activity and diet, unintentional and intentional injury, substance use, sexual behaviors, abuse, risk and protective factors, and access to school-based services. Survey results are used by schools, communities, and state agencies to plan programs to support our youth and reduce their risks.
Participation in the survey is voluntary and the students’ answers are anonymous. There are no codes or information used to match a survey to a student.
|
On Tuesday, October 21st, all WHS students will be invited to take part in a Panorama Social Emotional Learning survey. This is a district-wide initiative that all NSD schools will participate in. WHS specifically will be using the data gathered from the survey to help guide teachers, administrators, counselors, and other support staff in continuing our work to create a sense of belonging, safety, and support for all students.
For more information on the survey, please visit this page of the NSD website.

Middle school and elementary students must be accompanied by an adult when attending football and soccer games at Pop Keeney. The ratio is one adult to three students. Adults and students need to pay an entrance fee. Please do not drop off a carload of students and leave the premises. They will be turned away at the gate. Ticket takers will ask unaccompanied middle school and elementary students to leave the premises. Thank you for your cooperation.

Thanks to WHS & PTSA partnership, two new water bottle filling stations have been installed on the 2nd and 3rd floors—a $4,250 investment from your donations to WHS PTSA that’s already a big splash! Previously, the only filling/fountain in the main building was on the 1st or lower floors, meaning students and teachers had to take time between or during classes to refill bottles. Now, staying hydrated is faster, easier, and more accessible for everyone—plus it supports wellness, focus, and sustainability across campus.

Please take a moment to review and update your student’s emergency contact information in ParentVUE. Having the most current phone numbers and contacts ensures the school can reach you quickly in case of an emergency.

Reflections is the National PTA arts recognition program that invites students to explore their creativity through visual arts, photography, music composition, dance choreography, literature, and film production. It’s a wonderful opportunity for students to express their thoughts, feelings, and ideas while building confidence and artistic literacy.
This year’s theme, “I Belong,” encourages students to share what belonging means to them. Each submission includes an original work of art and a short artist statement. Students may enter in one or all categories—just one entry per category. Top entries from WHS in the 6 categories will move on to the Northshore Council PTA Showcase, with the chance to advance to the Washington State and even National levels! Check out our website for previous art inspiration, winners and the link to submit!

The WHS Robotics Team competed at Chezy Champs in San Jose, California September 26-27—an event widely regarded as the most prestigious invitational in all of FRC robotics. Chezy brings together the top teams from across the country, and heading into the competition, our team was ranked 10th nationally by EPA.
Over 10 qualification matches, we fought hard, finishing with an impressive 8-2 record. This landed us in a three-way tie for 2nd place, and through tiebreakers we secured the 4th overall seed.
As the 4th-seeded alliance captain, our team formed a powerhouse partnership with teams from across the country. The playoffs began with a setback, as we dropped our first match and slid into the lower bracket of the double-elimination format. From there, the team showed incredible resilience—battling back, eliminating alliance after alliance, and refusing to give in.
It all came down to one final showdown in the lower bracket against the #1 alliance, a juggernaut featuring both the reigning world champions and a five-time world champion teams. In a nail-biting match, our alliance came up just short, losing 293–280—a razor-thin 13-point margin.
Though finishing 3rd was bittersweet, with the championship so close within reach, our students left the event inspired, motivated, and more determined than ever.
And the season’s not over yet! You can catch the team in action at two more competitions this fall—next up: Sammamish High School, October 11–12!
