On Friday, October 10th, TMS A.S.B. proudly hosted the Association of Washington Student Leadership (AWSL) Day right here on our campus. We were joined by students from Canyon Park MS, Kenmore MS, Leota MS, Northshore MS, Skyview MS, and wonderful peers from nearby school districts including Westside School (an independent school in Seattle), Lakewood (Lakewood SD), and Park Place (Monroe SD).
This one-day regional workshop provided middle-level students with practical tools and strategies to bring back to their schools. Throughout the day, students worked to:
- Strengthen their sense of leadership identity and understand their roles and responsibilities.
- Learn actionable steps to promote a safe, inclusive school culture and build community.
- Discover fresh ideas to enhance school climate through student-led projects and initiatives.
- Engage in hands-on sessions focused on team building, collaboration, school engagement, project planning, and goal setting.
- Share ideas interactively with peers from across the region to inspire and support each other.
It was a day full of growth, connection, and leadership development—an exciting opportunity for all involved!

Our first spirit week is going to take place October 27th - October 31st. I wanted to take a moment to share our guidelines for spirit attire and dress-up days to help ensure we nurture creativity, inclusivity, and respect while setting our students up for success. At TMS, we want students to have fun—but never at anyone else’s expense. Spirit attire and costumes should be sensitive to our diverse community and culturally appropriate.
With that in mind, please review the following guidelines for acceptable attire:
- Cultures are not costumes.
- Costumes are only fun and respectful when they don’t hurt or mock others in any way.
- Student spirit wear and costumes must follow the school dress code as outlined in the Student Handbook.
- Students must always be fully identifiable—full-face paint is not allowed.
- Masks or other face coverings are not permitted.
- Costumes and accessories are encouraged as long as they:
- Do not portray or reinforce stereotypes or disrespect cultures or genders
- Are not distracting to the wearer or others
- Do not include weapons or items that resemble weapons
If students are ever unsure whether their attire meets these guidelines, please encourage them to check with an administrator before wearing it to school.
We’re excited to celebrate Spirit Week at TMS with your students. Go Wolves!
Sincerely,
Matt Wallace
Principal

Our new Audio Animatronics class is coming to Timbercrest next semester! Our robot performer, Spark-e, will need a few costumes for upcoming shows, and we’d love your help.
If you have lightly used, realistic costumes (like pirates, firefighters, construction workers, etc.) or happen to spot any great clearance deals after Halloween, please consider donating them. Fun superhero or fictional character costumes are also welcome!
Spark-e’s size: 4T (5T for jeans or denim)
Drop-off: Main office, labeled “Mr. Bowers and Spark-e”
Thank you for helping our students bring Spark-e to life!

We are seeing an increase in forgotten student belongings. Lunch boxes/bags, water bottles, clothing and shoes are quickly filling up our Lost & Found rack. We house our Lost & Found rack in the cafeteria so it’s easy for students to claim their belongings. When the amount of items overflow the cart, we go through each item and if the student’s name can be found, we send for the student and reunite them with their item. Please help your student claim their missing items before it’s too late. It is also VERY helpful to label property.
Unclaimed items will be donated to Treads & Threads on Friday, October 31, 2025.

Annually the District provides parents/guardians with notifications that must be acknowledged, including:
- Washington State Attendance Letter
- Rights and Responsibilities Handbook
- Weapons Letter
- Technology Use Agreement
- Interpretation and Translation Services
- Meningococcal/HPV Letter (Secondary Only)
- Permission to Withhold Student Directory Information (optional form due Oct. 15, 2025)
If you have not already, we ask that parents/guardians log in to ParentVUE soon to view these notices. If you have never logged into ParentVUE, you will find instructions on how to do so when you click the ParentVUE link above. Once logged in, you may be required to complete missing required information, and then you will be prompted to download, read, and take action for each of the notices listed above. Each parent/guardian must acknowledge these notices the next time they log into ParentVUE, Typically, only one parent/guardian per household will need to provide updates to the state-required information. This is required annually to ensure we have current information for each of our families. These steps are required before parents/guardians can access student grades and other information. If you need assistance, please review this step-by-step guide on the District website or contact your child’s school.
Please note: When you begin to confirm/update your family information in ParentVUE, please select “2025-26 Annual Update,” rather than the “2025-26 Student Enrollment” button. Only use the “Student Enrollment” button if you are enrolling a new student in Northshore.

Students who participate in sports, National Junior Honor Society, clubs, WEB, or who have been elected as ASB officers are required to purchase a membership. Hello Families,
October is National Bullying Prevention Awareness Month
During October, the Timbercrest Counseling Team is visiting classrooms to help build awareness and promote a positive, respectful school culture.
Students will learn how to recognize and report bullying behaviors—and how to be upstanders who help create a safe and supportive environment for everyone.
Below are some common examples of harassment, intimidation, and bullying (HIB) behaviors that can occur in middle school:
- Posting photos or comments on social media that make fun of others
- Spreading rumors about another student
- Sharing hurtful or embarrassing content online
- Repeating or spreading rumors after hearing them from someone else
- Teasing someone repeatedly and saying, “We’re just joking” or “It’s just for fun”
- Pointing out personal differences in a way that makes others feel “less than”
- Intentionally leaving someone out of invitations, plans, or group activities
How We Can All Make a Difference:
- Be an upstander—refuse to participate in hurtful behaviors
- Understand the difference between normal conflict and bullying, and report concerns to a trusted adult
- Speak up when you see others being mistreated
- Practice acts of kindness and empathy
- Be inclusive—make sure everyone feels welcome and valued
Together, we can make Timbercrest a place where every student feels respected, supported, and safe.

HEALTHY YOUTH SURVEY 2025 Administration for 6th and 8th grades: Date/Time: Update
Our school is participating in the Washington State Healthy Youth Survey during fall 2025. The survey will be given to students in Grades 6 AND 8. The Healthy Youth Survey includes questions related to physical activity, unintentional and intentional injury, substance use, interpersonal relationships, school experiences, risk and protective factors, and access to school-based services. Survey results are used by schools, communities, and State agencies to plan programs to support our youth and reduce their risks. Participation in the survey is voluntary and steps are taken to ensure student privacy and anonymity. There are no names or codes used to link a survey back to a student. Youth taking the survey can skip questions or stop taking the survey at any time. The survey is administered in-person as an electronic survey. Last day for parent opt-out requests will be October 20, 2025. Contact the school office or the school nurse.
TMS Advisory classes (08:00 - 08:49) will be administering the survey will be to 6th and 8th graders on Friday, October 24th, 2025. Students who are opting out of the survey may do an alternative quiet activity (read a book, do homework/school projects) at their desk during that time.
Please read the Information for Parents/Guardians and Youth Letter linked here for more information about the Healthy Youth Survey. Contact the school nurse for additional questions. Paper Copies of Survey Samples are available in the TMS Main office for parents/guardians to view for any parents interested in previewing survey questions.

The 6th grade girls continue to play hard and have fun while doing so.
Keep it up 6th graders!

The first WEB activity of the year was a success! Our WEB Leaders met with their 6th-grade groups to check in and see how their year is going. They also had some fun with a classic team-building game — Human Knot! It was great to see our WEB Leaders helping to build community, connection, and lots of laughter. Way to go, WEB Leaders!
