Principal's Message

Principal Ali Airhart
Fall is here, and it’s truly one of my favorite times of year! I love watching the world transform around us—the crisp air, the golden leaves, and the vibrant colors that seem to paint every corner of nature. This season always reminds me that change, though sometimes challenging, is both necessary and beautiful. It’s through change that we grow, move forward, and make room for something even more remarkable than before.

I also want to take a moment to express my sincere gratitude to the Crystal Springs Community for your continued patience and flexibility during our ongoing construction project. We know that these transitions can be inconvenient at times, but your understanding and support have made all the difference. The finish line is in sight, and the results will be well worth the wait. We’re almost there—thank you for taking this journey with us!

Sincerely,
Principal Ali Airhart

School Attendance - Every Day Counts!

Regular school attendance plays a major roll in student academic achievement. Children with chronic absences (2+ days per month) are less likely to read at grade level. Poor attendance can also have a negative effect on children’s social and emotional development. It is important to develop good attendance habits early by only keeping your child home for illness. And if your child must miss school, please remember to excuse the absence.

When should my child stay home?
Please refer to the NSD website for detailed information about when to keep your student home: https://www.nsd.org/schools/get-started/health-services/when-should-my-child-stay-home

How can I excuse an absence?
You can excuse an absence through ParentVue, by sending an email, or by leaving a voicemail.

ParentVUE:
  • Login to ParentVUE
  • Click the “Report Absence” button next to the name of your absent student
  • Fill in the fields with the date(s) of the absence and provide an explanation
  • Click to submit, automatically notifying the school of the absence
  • You can use this method to report an absence of up to 4 days.
Email: send an email to csattendance@nsd.org and your student’s teacher
Voicemail: call 425-408-4310 to leave a detailed message excusing your student’s absence.

How long do I have to excuse an absence?
Absences should be excused within 2 school days. However, we prefer to be notified in advance whenever possible.

Do I need to state a reason for the absence?
A general idea of why your student is absent is necessary in order to properly code it in our database. Specific details are not required, however, if your student’s absence becomes chronic, the principal may request a meeting to discuss the reasons your student is not able to attend school.

I am taking my student out for a vacation, what do I need to do?
If your student will be absent for more than 5 school days, please complete the pre-arranged absence form and return it to the school office or your student’s teacher. If your student will miss more than 20 days of school, please contact the school registrar, Cindy Tidball (ctidball@nsd.org), for additional information.

Do I need to provide a doctor’s note?
If your student had a long illness that required a doctor’s visit, please provide a note to the school office.

We look forward to seeing your student each and every day at Crystal Springs!

Request Early Pickup or Change of After School Plans

If you need to pickup your student before the end of the school day, or if your student needs to go home in a way that is different from usual, please email your student's teacher and csattendance@nsd.org as soon as possible. For last minute early pick-ups or change of after school plans, please call the school office at 425-408-4300.

Fall Celebrations

At the end of the month, some classrooms may be holding Fall or Harvest celebrations. Your child’s teacher will be providing details of the celebration. With all the excitement and creativity, we are asking everyone to be sensitive to the wide range of cultural and religious traditions of our students and staff. We strive to support an inclusive environment for each student and family. No costumes should be worn to school.

Reminder: if volunteering for fall parties, a level 1 volunteer application is required prior to the event: https://crystalsprings.nsd.org/resources/volunteer

Safety at Parent Drop Off

For the safety of our staff and student, please do not allow your student to exit your car while on the street. If you do not wish to wait in the queue lane, you can park, release your student, and have them use the crosswalk to cross 9th avenue. If you are interested in switching to bus transportation, please visit the NSD website for details: https://www.nsd.org/our-district/departments/transportation.
