• Mustang Memo October Newsletter: Q2 Week 1

Mustang Memo October Newsletter Quarter 2 Week 1 October 13, 2025   Message from the Principal Miller Families, Welcome back from Fall Break! I hope you had a restful time and enjoyed the cooler weather. As we begin the second quarter, our focus is attendance. The school day runs from 8:20 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. (with early release Wednesdays at 1:30 p.m.). Every time a student arrives late or leaves early, valuable learning minutes are lost. This quarter, we are tracking absences, tardies, and early checkouts. Our goal is 95% attendance — that’s 42 days present this quarter! Every minute counts. Students will track their attendance individually and as a class, with weekly and quarterly rewards to celebrate their progress. We also have many exciting events coming up! Join us for Trunk or Treat, our Día de los Muertos altar and letter-writing, Winter Wonderland Family Engagement Night, Bingo and Movie Nights, and more. Cross Country continues, Basketball begins, and we’re planning field trips for our Students of the Month. We look forward to seeing our Mustang families at all of our upcoming events and celebrations! Stay connected and informed by following us on Facebook and signing up for ClassDojo for updates throughout the year! We can't wait to see you soon! Sincerely, Katherine Sabel M. Ed Principal Miller Elementary School katherine.sabel@tusd1.org (520)908-4200 “Teaching and learning should bring joy.”                                                     ~Rita Pierson   Important Reminders   Quarter 2 Goal: Attendance Attendance Matters! This quarter, Miller Elementary is focusing on attendance! Every day—and every minute—of learning counts. When students are in school consistently, they build stronger academic skills, make lasting friendships, and develop positive routines that support their success. Our goal this quarter is 98% attendance—that means students are present and learning every day possible. Please help us reach our goal by: Making sure your child arrives on time each morning. Avoiding early checkouts—when students leave even 15–30 minutes early, they miss valuable closing lessons, directions, and classroom connections. Scheduling appointments outside of school hours when possible. Encouraging your child to come to school even on “tired” days—every day of learning adds up! Every minute counts toward your child’s growth and success. Together, we can make sure our Mustangs show up, learn, and thrive!   Parent Drop Off Reminder Please read through the procedural reminder for a safe return from break Parent Drop Off.: Please pull all the way forward during our morning drop off. I know it is tempting to let your kids out before the roundabout "safety zone", however it backs up traffic on Camino de la Tierra. Breakfast begins at 7:45. Students will enter the school through our northeast gate, proceed through the corral into the cafeteria. Please remind students they must stay in the cafeteria until released for Recess. We will not have the front side entrance to the cafeteria open. If you need any support feel free to come in or call us (520)908-4200   Trunk or Treat Candy Donations Our 3rd Annual Trunk or Treat is Friday October 31st, during the school day. • October

OCTOBER 2025 Hello Miller Mustang Families We're excited to share the latest happenings and updates from our school community to keep you informed and engaged.   Notes from the Nurse It’s October and it’s National Dental Hygiene Month! Brushing your teeth for 2 minutes 2 times a day is a great way to help keep your teeth in amazing shape. Mass Hearing is Oct 17th for PK, K 1st, 3rd, 5th, ExEd and New students. Vision screening will be done throughout the year. As the seasons change and the weather cools, it’s good to practice hand hygiene as well. Hand washing is the best way to help prevent the spread of germs and viruses. Wet hands, remove hands from water and add soap, lather for 20 seconds then rinse off the soap. Practicing together with the little ones is a good way to develop the habit. If your child is not feeling well, please keep them at home. They must be fever free for 24 hours without fever reducing medication and their symptoms must improve before sending them back to school. Using a humidifier at night helps with congestion, as well as nightly allergy medication. Please keep up to date with your child’s immunizations. We will continue to send out notices for those who are not compliant. Proof of current immunizations is required for school attendance under Arizona State Law. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to the health office.
