White Elementary Family Newsletter October 1, 2025 Dear White Elementary Families, As we wrap up the first quarter of the school year, I want to take a moment to celebrate all that we have accomplished together. From the hard work of our students in the classroom, to the dedication of our teachers, and the ongoing support from our families, this first quarter has been a success because of our shared commitment to Building Our Future Together. We are so grateful for the ways you support learning at home, attend events, and partner with us to help each child grow. Your encouragement and involvement truly make a difference, and together we are laying the foundation for lifelong learning and success. As Fall Break approaches, I wish you and your family a wonderful and restful time together. Enjoy the season, and come back recharged and ready for all that the second quarter has in store. With your continued partnership, I know our students will keep reaching new heights as we keep Building Our Future Together. Thank you for being an essential part of the White Elementary community. When someone says or does something hurtful on purpose, they keep doing it, and the victim or target lacks the power to get out of the situation, that’s bullying. Bullying can be physical, verbal, and social/relational. Examples of physical bullying include pushing, hitting, kicking, or taking or damaging another’s possessions. Verbal bullying includes teasing, name calling, racial slurs, threats, and mean jokes. Examples of social/relational bullying include spreading rumors or gossip or deliberately preventing someone from being part of a group. Cyber-bullying includes using a phone, social media, or other technology to harass, threaten, embarrass, or target another person.  Bullying is different from being rude or mean. When someone says or does something hurtful on accident, and they do it once, that’s rude. It still isn't expected or acceptable behavior at White, but it isn't bullying. There is also a difference between bullying and being mean. When someone says or does something hurtful on purpose and they do it once, that’s mean. It isn’t okay to be mean, and there will be consequences for mean behavior, but being mean is not the same thing as bullying. There is also a difference between conflict and bullying. Conflict happens between two or more people who are equal in the relationship but have different points of view. Sometimes this escalates, and people become very upset. There might be strong words used and big feelings involved. It may take time to sort things out, and students may need help to resolve conflicts. That said, bullying is not the same as conflict. Bullying is meant to cause hurt or harm.   No one deserves to be bullied. Everyone has the right to feel safe at school. Bullying hurts everyone, including the kids who are doing the bullying. Everyone at White, including students, family members, and staff, can work together to prevent bullying. The counselors will be talking with students about healthy friendships, conflict resolution, and bullying, and what to do if they see or experience bullying. There are 3 important steps in dealing with bullying and other bothersome behavior, using the STOP, WALK, TALK method:  1) Ask the person who is bothering or bullying you to STOP.  2) WALK away.   3) TALK to a trusted adult. This could be a family member, a monitor, a teacher, a counselor, the principal, or another staff member. *It is important to KEEP talking if the problem does not go away. Tell more than one trusted adult, if needed.   Do not ignore bullying, whether it is happening to you or to someone else. It’s important to speak up and let someone know! Parents and guardians —if a student tells you about bullying, please reach out to the office. Together, we can prevent bullying!   Ms. Nastia  Email: Stacey.SniderSimon@tusd1.org  Phone: (520) 314-7218     Ms. Miranda  Email: Tabitha.Miranda@tusd1.org  Phone: (520) 344-0577  From the Nurse's Office It’s October and it’s National Dental Hygiene Month! Brushing your teeth for 2 minutes 2 times a day is a great way to help keep your teeth in amazing shape. Mass Hearing Screening is Oct 17th. Vision screening will be done throughout the year. As the seasons change, the weather cools, it’s good to practice hand hygiene as well. Hand washing is the best way to help prevent the spread of germs and viruses. Wet hands, remove hands from water and add soap, lather for 20 seconds then rinse off the soap. Practicing together with the little ones is a good way to develop the habit. If your child is not feeling well, please keep them home. They must be fever free for 24 hours without fever reducing medication and their symptoms must improve before sending them back to school. Using a humidifier at night helps with congestion, as well as nightly allergy medication. Please keep up to date with your child’s immunizations. We will continue to send out notices for those who are not compliant. Proof of current immunizations is required for school attendance under Arizona State Law. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to the health office. Fun Fact: Your Eye is your fastest muscle Oct 1 is National Coffee Day Oct 4 is Taco Day.

  • September Newsletter

White Elementary Family Newsletter September 1, 2025 Welcome to the 25-26 School Year Dear White Elementary Families, We are excited to be entering the second month of the school year! Our students are already making great progress, and we are so proud of the effort they are putting into their learning each day. As we look ahead, we want to highlight the importance of Parent-Teacher Conferences on September 17–19. Conferences are a valuable opportunity to connect with your child’s teacher, celebrate successes, and set goals for continued growth. We strongly encourage all families to attend. We also want to remind everyone about the importance of regular attendance and being on time each morning. Every minute of learning matters, and when students arrive on time and attend consistently, they build routines that set them up for success both now and in the future. Thank you for your partnership and support as we continue building a strong year together! Go Bulldogs! Sometimes conflict happens, but when handled properly, it can be a learning opportunity. Disagreements can help students find ways to work together, gain new perspectives, and strengthen relationships. To help students develop these important skills, school counselors will provide lessons on kindness and conflict resolution, including the difference between conflict and bullying.  Here are some strategies you can use to help the child(ren) in your home resolve conflict.  Teach the stoplight (STOP, THINK, GO): Ask your child to close their eyes and picture a stoplight. When the red light is on, they should stop, take 3 deep breaths and think of something calming. When the light turns yellow, it’s time to think and evaluate the problem. Can they handle this on their own? Do they need adult help? Think of 2 problem solving strategies that might work. When the light turns green, it is time to go and make the best choice.   Think about the size of the problem: Ask yourself if what you are doing will make the problem bigger or smaller. Does your reaction match the size of the problem? Remember, big problems need to be reported to an adult, because they are scary, hurtful, or dangerous. Students are strong and smart enough to handle small problems on their own using the Wheel of Choice.   Use the Wheel of Choice: Come up with at least 2 possible solutions to the conflict. If the first one doesn’t work, try another one.                                    If your student needs help resolving a conflict or restoring a relationship, please reach out to their classroom teacher or to one of the counselors.    Ms. Miranda   Email: Tabitha.Miranda@tusd1.org  Phone: (520) 344-0577     Ms. Nastia  Email: Stacey.SniderSimon@tusd1.org  Phone: (520) 314-7218  From the Nurse's Office We hope everyone has a great start to the school year. The weather is still warm, please send your child to school with a water bottle and sunscreen. We will have Mass Hearing Screening for grades Pk, K, 1, 3, 5 and for those new to our district and with IEPs Oct 17th. Vision screening will be done throughout the year.
