What are Conversation Starters?
Conversation Starters are two short, AI-generated questions added to the end of a post, designed to give parents and guardians a natural way to bring school updates into the conversation at home.
When a teacher posts about a science experiment or a school-wide read-aloud, Conversation Starters uses AI to generate two suggested questions parents can ask their child:
- An understanding question that prompts recounting, helping students explain what happened in their own words
- A reflection question that encourages deeper thinking, inviting students to share feelings, make connections, or think ahead
These aren’t quiz questions. They’re open-ended, curiosity-driven prompts designed to spark genuine connection, not test recall. The questions are options for any post author to add or edit before sending, giving families an easy, low-pressure way to extend the conversation at home.

How it works
School staff can add Conversation Starters to any post in just a few clicks. After drafting a post, ParentSquare generates two suggested questions based on the post content. From there, you’re in control. Review the questions, edit either one, keep just one, or remove them entirely before sending. They’ll only appear in a post if chosen to be included.
